Business Challenge: Encyclopedia Britannica is the best known and most authoritative reference in the world. The Britannica.com Web site is a search and directory service that integrates top-quality, up-to-the-minute information from a wide array of respected sources, as well as a full line of general information and services such as e-mail, weather forecasts, financial market reports, and the full text of the Encyclopedia Britannica. The amount of content available on Britannica.com poses a unique problem with respect to the user experience since every search results in an overwhelming deluge of information. Britannica recognized the need make the search feature more prominent and to refine the results page.

Solution: Britannica turned to Ajenda to help shape Britannica.com 's customer experience. This design strategy engagement utilized our expertise in information architecture and user experience design. We began by reorganizing the logic of the search process to ensure that the results were better organized and specific information was easier to locate. We also designed a universal navigation system and simplified layout for the results display that promoted further user interaction with the site. Ajenda worked closely with Britannica 's content and technical teams to come up with an interface that could be implemented without having to make extensive changes to their database and content management system.

Impact: Ajenda's recommendations have been implemented on the current Britannica.com Web site resulting in a significant improvement of the user experience.
